Tools in Photoshop :The first time we start the application, the tool box appears on the left side of the screen. It contain several tools like pen, pencil, air brush, eraser etc. These tools are used to type, select, point, move the image. Some common tools used in Photoshop are given below:-
- Pen tool
- Pencil tool
- History brush tool
- Air brush tool
- Eraser tool
- Rubber stamp tool
- smudge tool
- Dodge tool
- burn tool
- Sponge tool
- Paint brush tool.
1. Pen tool:-
We can create or edit straight lines, curves and shapes using the pen tool. It can be used in conjunction with the shape tool to create complex shapes.
2. Pencil tool:-
This tool works like the paint brush tool. It helps in creating edged lines. It is useful for bitmap images. Pencil tool has two options.
- Freeform pen tool.
- Magnetic pen tool.
Freeform pen tool :-The freeform pen tool lets us to draw as if we were drawing with a pencil on
b) Magnetic pen tool:-
The Magnetic pen tool is used to draw a path that snaps to the edge of defined area our image.
3. History brush tool :-
History brush is used to restore part of an image to its previously saved version. It also allows us to paint a copy of one state or snapshot of an image into the current image window. This tool works similar to the rubber stamp tool, but on any state or snapshot of the image, not first the current one.
- Air brush tool:-
This tool sprays paint on the canvass. As we notice from its shape, it’s like paint being sprayed from the spray paint canisters through a nozzle.
The airbrush applies paint with different edges and we can control how fast the paint is applied. If we hold the brush at a spot for longer time, the darker and saturated color becomes in the image.
- Eraser tool :-
The Eraser tool makes it easier for us to erase sections of a layer to transparency. Besides eraser tool there is background and magic eraser tools also.
The background eraser tool lets us erase pixels on a layer to transparency as we drag.
The magic eraser tool automatically erasers all similar pixels to transparency. We can choose to eraser contagious pixels only or all similar pixels on the current layer.
- Rubber stamp tool :
The rubber stamp tool takes an sample of the image, which you can then apply over another image or part of the same image. Each the stroke of the tool paints on more of the sampled image. Cross hairs mark the original sampling point. The pattern a stamp tool lets you select part of an image and paint with the selection as a pattern.
- Smudge tool:-
When we blend two or more colors , it is called smudging. We can do
more than one way. The smudge looks like a fingers. It is in the same tool box
compartment with the blur and sharpens tools. The smudge tool picks up color from the when ever we start to drag it and move it in the direction in which we drag.
We can set the smudge options from the smudge tool options dialog box. We can choose blending modes from a pull down menu. E.g. darken, lighten, hue, color or luminosity. From these darken and lighten modes are mostly used.
Smudge tool is retouching tool. We can retouch an image by using it.
8. Dodge tool:-
Dodging is accomplished by waving a dodge tool, usually a card board circle on a wire, between the projected image from the enlarger and the photographic paper. It blocks some of the light and makes the dodged area lighter when the print is developed.
Inside the tool options palette you have the three choice.
Shadows. Midtones. Highlights.
- Burn tool:-
Burn tool has the opposite effect to dodge tool. Instead of lightning a small area, it darkens the area. By blocking the enlarge light with our hand we can reach the area to be burned.
10. Sponge tool:-
It is the darkroom feature. When a picture in the developing trag is not turning dark enough, or to be under exposed or weak in color the darkroom technician can after save it by sloshing some fresh, full-strength developing chemical on a sponge and rubbing it directly on the wet point in the tray. On a color image, it subtly increases the color saturation in the area to which we apply it. On a gray scale image, it increases or decreases contrast by moving the gray scale level away or toward middle gray.
11. Paint brush tool:-
This tool creates soft strokes of color. Specify the opacity, paint fade
and blending mode as discussed earlier. The wet edges option is specific to
paint brush which is used to paint with a water color effect.
